About Newman

Newman is a branch of the Stockon Diocese serving the students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community of the University of the Pacific. Newman organizes Masses, bible studies, community action events, and special services throughout the year. In addition to being a place of prayer and service, Newman is also a place for students to have fun. We organize a number of retreats, movie nights, holiday parties, and after-Mass pizza.

The Newman Catholic Community has existed for over 50 years at the University of the Pacific. Traditionally it was organised as a club although today this is no longer true. The leadership at Newman is strongly considering the possibilities of recreating a pastoral council with more involvement of the students at University of the Pacific. If you are interested in this, please contact Dyan with any ideas that you have.

The Newman House has always existed as a place where the community could gather, and even used to be a place where students of Pacific could dorm together. Although Newman events still take place at the House, the Stockton Diocese converted it years ago to a place where priests in formation reside. If you would like to explore the possibilities of becoming a priest in formation and living in the Newman House, please contact Dyan.

The Newman Catholic Commuinity also at one time consisted of students representing Delta College as well, and the Mass was offered for students of Delta College. However, because of unknown reasons, Newman no longer operates in conjunction with Delta. Newman Masses are still open to the public, and it is encouraged that the general community attend.
