Music Coordinator (Emeritus)
Raymond Philip Napuli studies at University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music, is currently finishing a minor in Film Studies, and has served as Music Coordinator for the Newman Community since November 2008. At Morris Chapel, Phil believes that liturgical music's effectiveness in sacred worship is directly linked to the “full, active, and conscious participation” of the music ministers and the entire community. Under his direction, the Newman Community has incorporated music from both traditional and contemporary Catholic cultural traditions such as Irish hymns, African-American Gospel, Spanish-English bilingual music, and African-Catholic hymns. He composed several Psalm settings, and the Mass setting: “Mass of a Contemplative Heart.” Outside of the Newman Community, Phil composes religious and secular music, and is a violinist at his home parish in Chula Vista, California.
